She has covered sports for major outlets around the globe. Her tenure working at The Washington Post was spent with several Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis along with basketball, football and other sports. In 2004 Nichols moved on to ESPN for a nine-year run during which she was awarded 2 Emmy Awards and appeared on several of the network's top popular shows, such as SportsCenter as well as NFL Countdown. She also worked as the correspondent of Monday Night Football on the network. Next, she moved on to CNN Sports and Turner. Unguarded the show, which she created and hosted aired each one week at CNN International. It boasted over a billion viewers around the world. Nichols worked as a journalist for TNT at the time, reporting on NBA broadcasts, including regular season games, playoffs or All-Star teams. Nichols also worked for TBS broadcasting golf and baseball broadcasts as well as Final Four broadcasts on CBS. This is only the second nomination in 42 years of the honor for a female out of more than 200 contenders.
