Taylor Russell McKenzie was born on the 18th of July 1994 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was raised in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. [1][22 Russell, who was born to an African-American father and a white mother, is bi-racial and grew up primarily with her mother's family. She said that her skin color was the primary reason for her feeling excluded by her peers when she was growing up. [3] Her parents struggled financially, and were constantly moving, relocating their lives 16 times to follow her father's career. Russell was candid about how despite this, Russell said that she was always creative when she was a kid. She wanted to be an actress and ballet dancer. She also wanted to be an artist. Russell was only 18 when she took her first acting class. She saved money from work to buy the car she needed and drove to Los Angeles to audition. When her funds ran out, she returned to work until she had enough money to make another attempt at auditioning. The process continued for four years until she finally got her first television show role.
